Question

How is anonymous access functioning ?

Answer

An FTP user signs on to your system with user name ANONYMOUS.
An eMail address will be specified as password.

The IP address generally is not of importance for access via Internet as it changes with every signon.

User ANONYMOUS does not exist within OS/400. The final user will be defined within PCSACC/400.

An anonymous access allows an FTP server access to your iSeries without having the FTP user to know the password of an OS/400 user profile.

If he signs on for example as ANONYMOUS with password busch@pcsacc400.de, he will be signed on as user FTP.

As the FTP user does not know the password of FTP, he will not be able to misuse the connection for TELNET. Even trying will not be successful as FTP does not have a password.

User ANONYMOUS only is defined within PCSACC/400. No user profile exists within OS/400.

User FTP must have a user profile within OS/400, the password should be *NONE and it should be enabled. FTP has to be defined with ist access authorities within PCSACC/400.

Instead of name ANONYMOUS, every other name can be specified.

Which steps need to be performed in order to use OS/400 user FTP, the FTP user for Anonymous access is FTPGUEST and each eMail address should be valid.

Depending on the record type, not all fields are input capable.

Entry of FTP as OS/400 user profile for anonymous access. FTP at that point of time has to be an existing OS/400 user profile. The record will be added via F9.

A specific OS/400 user can be entered for a certain eMail address. It has to be an existing OS/400 user, his authorities have to be defined within PCSACC/400.

A combination of specific eMail addresses with user profiles and a general user profile in field default user for eMail address is allowed.

We do not recommed to use this combination as the default user will be taken for wrong entries.

Additionally it is possible to work with weekly calenders (http://www.pcsacc400.com/First/Q011.htm). For that an IP address record *.*.*.* will be stored and a weekly calender will be specified there.
